The Inspiration
If you are looking for some motivation to
get in shape please let me tell you my story. It was August 2006 and I was scheduled
to have a run in Central Park. When I arrived at the Park I thought
"Ugh, I'm really not in the mood for this!" Searching
for
some inspiration I thought of Kyli. For
those of you who do not know, Kyli is
my five year old niece who has been struggling to develop since she
was born. She is legally blind and because of a lack of muscular development
is challenged to even sit up on her own. Her parents have consulted
some of the best available specialists and Kyli's condition has still not been diagnosed.
Still
contemplating my run I began to think of Kyli. I
remembered a recent photo of her bravely sitting up on
her own. It was at this moment that I began to feel quite guilty. This
young girl is working so hard, against so many odds and I was lacking
the gratitude for the good health I have. I began my run in an almost
prayer type fashion. Keep in mind that I am not a very religious person.
When I refer to God, I am respectfully referring to whatever mystery created this universe. I think Obi Wan called it "The
Force." I needed to believe that every step I took was an acknowledgement
to God for my gratitude. I wanted to believe that in return for taking
care of myself, God would have more time and energy for Kyli. I felt a beautiful connection to both Kyli and God. It was one of the best
runs I have had in a long time.

The
Event
Wanting
to share my experience I thought of "30
Days for Kyli." Unlike a fundraiser, this is a spiritual
raiser. There is no money required to participate in this event. Once again for
the month of September, I am encouraging
all family and friends to dedicate some of their own self care to Kyli. This could be anything from losing a few pounds, getting
back to the gym, walking everyday, etc. Each time each person takes
a healthy
action, dedicate it and maybe
say a prayer for Kyli. If you're
not in the mood to take care of yourself that day, think of Kyli and see if that changes your mind. She has to fight
everyday. We just have to do this for 30
days!
Guestbook – Once you become a member of this event, you will have immediate
access to the Guestbook. This will allow you to introduce yourself
and share your commitment.
You will also be able to report your progress to everyone in the group.
I have been assured that Kyli and her parents (Andy and Jodi) will be
reading all of the messages!
Fitness
Journaling - If you really want to have fun with this we invite
everyone to keep a journal of their healthy efforts. This will make
it easier for you to report your progress on the guestbook. You
will also feel a great sense of pride seeing your achievements in black
and white. Journal Booklet – Scroll below and click on the journal booklet icon. There you can download and print the journal. It will also have a list of health choices you may want to incorporate into your program.
How
Can I Participate?
If you would like to be part of the event then please click on the Guestbook icon at the bottom of the page and introduce yourself. You can say hello to Kyli and state your healthy intention for the month. Throughout the month please check in from time to time (on the Guestbook) to let Kyli know how you are doing. Good luck and remember that Kyli is rooting for each and everyone of you.
A Special Message from Kyli's family
Thank you for joining us once again for"30
Days for Kyli." Your participation and words of support provided tremendous encouragement to us over this past year. We are humbled at how Kyli has touched so many lives, which only proves that her circumstances are being used for a greater purpose. 2007 has been filled with obstacles, challenges and milestones. Kyli has been in the ICU twice with life threatening prolonged seizures. In spite of it all, Kyli has managed to grow two inches and at age five, is now 26lbs. She has grown more since the 2006 "30
Days for Kyli"than she has in three years! Kyli continues to make progress in baby steps; crawling a body length on the floor, pushing up on her elbows and resting her chin in her hands, eating 70% of her food by mouth, giving two handed hugs and even a kiss for the first time in her life, and communicating some of her needs with a choice board. Each emerging skill is indeed a miracle. Kyli continues to overcome the odds, persevere, and demonstrates extraordinary will that fortifies our faith and belief that Kyli will reach her fullest potential. With your participation and encouragement we are assured VICTORY WILL BE OURS.
— Jodi, Andy and with much love Kyli
